Cyber criminals hack court system

Hackers have gained access to the personal information of 160,000 US citizens after compromising Washington State court service servers.

According to a Threatpost.com report, through a vulnerability in Adobe ColdFusion,160,000 social security numbers as well as the driving licence numbers and names of a million people were accessed by the hackers.

t is not yet clear when the attack happened but it is said to have been after September 2012.

The administration organisation for the courts said it took immediate action to secure the information when the attach was revealed.

“The attackers had no access to financial information, but were able to access 160,000 SSNs,” it said in a statement.

O2 To Challenge Ofcom

O2 has stated that it will challenge Ofcom decision to allow rival network operator, Everything Everywhere, to roll out the 4G network ahead of the 4G auction, by utilising it’s existing network.

Last month Ofcom announced that the joint venture between Orange and T-Mobile will be allowed to roll out their 4G service to the market from 11th of September 2012.

Concerns were raised by both O2 and Vodafone around the time of the Ofcom announcement, raising fears of their competition getting a jump start on them. Which when you consider that it will be next year before the auction for 4G licences, may indeed be well founded.

4G, will be excellent for businesses and consumers alike, increasing broadband speed capabilities significantly. There could also be major benefits from 4G for areas which have little or no Broadband coverage but do have mobile network coverage.

Mobile data is expected to reach record levels with in the next few years, with some predicting that by 2016 it will be 18 times the current level. A Phenomenal increase in any market, given the current economic situation. In fact during a speech Jeremy Hunt  stated that the government anticipates that sooner rather than later that mobile internet access will be the preferred option for going on line for many of us.

Internet Outage

A major under water cable break caused chaos to internet users over a 24 hour period.

Sites such as Amazon, the BBC and many others were inaccessible to many over the period.

It was confirmed that a cable between the Uk and the Netherlands had broke on the 27th of this month.

A spokesman  for the company, Interoute, confirmed the break and added ”

A specialist cable marine crew and vessel have been engaged,” he said. “The timeline for a full system fix is currently pending. The cause of the fibre break has not yet been fully determined. However, current information suggests that the culprit was a ship’s anchor.

“Approximately 400Gbps of services have been successfully re-routed and handed back into active service since the break occurred. In the next 48 hours, Interoute aims to have 75 to 80 per cent of the total unprotected services back up and running.

“None of Interoute’s protected services, e.g. Internet, corporate connectivity, hosting or video have been affected. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this cable break.”
